Layer!
The Short Sport guide to a warm and dry day of skiing.

Layering is the secret to staying warm and dry.

Layer 1. Keep Your Skin Dry
The material touching your skin is a very important detail. You want a fabric that will wick moisture (sweat) away from your skin. Polyester or silk are great. Cotton is a bad first layer because it holds moisture. Start with a synthetic long underwear top and bottom and you'll have a better start at staying warm on the ski lift.

Layers 2 and 3. Insulation
Layers 2 and 3 are your insulation layers. A turtleneck works on a warmer day, add a layer of fleece or a sweater for those January chillers.

Layer 4. keep the Wind and Snow Out!
Layer 4 is a windproof and waterproof outer layer. The wind is the cruelest aspect of the mountain. It doesn't matter how many layers of fleece your put on, the wind will almost always find it's way in if you're not wearing a windproof outer layer. The outer layer should also be water resistant - you won't last long out there if your wet.
